What Bull Shark Does (In Plain English)

Think of Bull Shark like a high-tech, ultra-thin “two-way tape”. It lays down a bonded micro-film that gives your next coating something to grab, lock onto, and move with. It’s the bridge between “this surface doesn’t want paint” and “this coating is here to stay.”

Pro insight: When Bull Shark is used correctly, you’re no longer relying on the substrate alone — you’re coating a performance adhesion layer.

1) Tie Coat Primer

When you can’t strip an existing layer, mist Bull Shark over it to secure and seal the surface, creating a fresh film that your next product can bond to.

2) Adhesion Promoter

Built for “difficult” surfaces: glass, plastics, fiberglass, cultured marble, Formica and composites. The goal: a reliable adhesion foundation before your coating system goes on.

3) Flex Agent (Substitution Method)

To increase flexibility, substitute 1 part of your reducer mix with Bull Shark. Example: if your mix calls for 3 oz reducer, use 2 oz reducer + 1 oz Bull Shark.

4) Fish Eye / Blush Defense

Bull Shark leaves a bonded micro-film across the surface, helping block minor contamination from becoming fish eyes, blushing, and repellency. It’s a bridge layer that makes your system more forgiving.

Important Disclosure (Flex Agent Use)
Substitute 1 part of your reducer blend with Bull Shark for flexibility and thermal shock resistance.
For maximum effectiveness as a flex agent, substitute 1 part of your reducer mix with Bull Shark. This increases flexibility and helps reduce cracking/popping on substrates exposed to thermal stress (plastics, fiberglass, composites, bumpers, etc.).

Professional Surface Prep & Application

  1. Clean thoroughly. Remove oils, waxes, silicones, polishes, and residues (the invisible killers).
  2. Create a dull surface. Light scuff where appropriate for mechanical bite — remove dust completely.
  3. Mask adjacent areas. Prevent overspray and keep your finish professional.
  4. Apply Bull Shark as a thin mist. This is a micro-film — do not apply heavy coats.
  5. Allow adequate flash. Let the film settle before topcoating for best bond and performance.
  6. Topcoat within your workflow window. Don’t drag the process out — keep the system moving.
Pro Rule: Thin, even, and controlled always wins. Heavy = waste + problems.

Flex Agent Mixing Chart (Universal Substitution)

Use this chart for SharkThane systems, High Gloss Epoxy, and Liquid Porcelain Enamel whenever you’re using Bull Shark as a flex agent. Replace 1/3 of your reducer blend with Bull Shark.

Total Reducer Mix Reducer Bull Shark
3 oz 2 oz 1 oz
6 oz 4 oz 2 oz
9 oz 6 oz 3 oz
12 oz 8 oz 4 oz
Compatibility Note: Always test a small area first when coating unknown or aged substrates. Proper prep still wins — Bull Shark is a performance bridge, not a substitute for cleanliness.

Mixing Tips (Don’t Skip)

  • Measure accurately. Guessing kills consistency.
  • Mix thoroughly. Even distribution matters.
  • Use clean equipment. Residue can interfere with bonding.
  • Test first. Especially on unknown coatings.
  • Respect flash time. Let the film settle before topcoat.

Application Tips (Field-Proof)

  • Thin, even mist. Heavy coats reduce performance.
  • Ventilation matters. Helps flash and keeps you safer.
  • Control the environment. Temp/humidity affects behavior.
  • Avoid contaminants. Dust and lint love wet films.
  • Plan your workflow. Don’t delay between steps.

Safety Essentials

  • Wear PPE: gloves, eye protection, and appropriate respirator/mask.
  • Ventilate: especially indoors. Proper airflow improves results and safety.
  • Avoid skin contact: wash immediately with soap/water if exposure occurs.
  • Store properly: cool, dry, sealed, away from heat and sunlight.
  • Dispose responsibly: follow local regulations for chemical waste.

Bull Shark When You Need Coatings to Stick Like They Mean It
