CLEAR VERSION
1:1 MIXING
PRO-ONLY SYSTEM
SHARKGRIP HIGH GLOSS EPOXY
CLEAR COAT (Modified Epoxy Clear)
This is the CLEAR version of our High Gloss Modified Epoxy system — designed for pros who want gloss, leveling, and durability with the same fast workflow advantages you expect from SharkGrip. It is excellent for going over colors, locking down graphics, and producing a clean “wet look” finish.
High Gloss • Self-Leveling
Fast Tack-Up
3–4 Day Pot Life
Low Odor • ISO-Free
? REDLINE CAUTION — READ BEFORE YOU MIX ?
This warning prevents the #1 catastrophic failure: a clear epoxy that never hardens.
ABSOLUTE RULE: The High Gloss Epoxy CLEAR Catalyst (Part B) is NOT interchangeable with High Gloss Epoxy Topcoat catalyst or High Build SharkGrip Primer catalyst — even if it has a blue label.
DO NOT “SWAP PART B” — IT WILL NEVER HARDEN.
This Epoxy CLEAR uses a proprietary, mission-specific Part B engineered for this clear system. If you substitute any other Part B (Topcoat, Primer, or “it looks the same”), the coating can remain soft and fail to cure. Do not gamble a job just because something has a blue label.
Plain English: Part B is the “brain” of the epoxy. The wrong Part B = the wrong chemistry = no hard cure. Use the CLEAR’s Part B only.
What This Is: High Gloss Epoxy — CLEAR Coat
Same workflow advantages as our High Gloss Modified Epoxy topcoat system — but in a clear format. It lays down slick, levels beautifully, and is a go-to when you want to protect or enhance an existing color without adding pigment.
Color Reality: Clear Can Show a Very Light Amber Tone
B
ecause this system is clear (no pigment to “absorb” tint) and uses a catalyst designed for this chemistry, you may notice a very light amber warmth — especially in heavier film builds.
- Over colors: it’s excellent — the tone is typically a non-issue and the clear looks rich and deep.
- Over stark whites / bright white backgrounds: if you spray heavy the slight amber can become visible.
- Low spots / unlevel areas: on surfaces with a slight “pull-down” (example: heavy cast iron sinks causing subtle slope), clear can slide/pool when applied too wet — the pooled areas can show more amber.
Pro move: Keep clears controlled — lighter, even passes reduce pooling and keep the appearance crystal clean.
High Gloss + Self-Leveling
Built to flow and level like a pro finish should. Ideal when you want a slick top appearance without loading pigment.
Great use: “Lock-in” over colored work where you want depth and protection.
Fast Tack-Up + Long Pot Life
Sprays fast on the surface while staying workable in the cup for multi-day schedules. Less waste, fewer “panic mixes,” and a smoother production rhythm.
Crew advantage: More consistency. More completed work per week.
High Gloss Epoxy CLEAR — Mixing & Induction Instructions
Proper ratio + induction + reduction timing matter for leveling, gloss, and cure.
Exact Mix Ratio (CLEAR System)
- 1 Part Part A (Resin)
- 1 Part Part B (CLEAR Catalyst)
- Mix equal parts by volume.
Non-negotiable: Mix until fully uniform and streak-free.
Typical Small Tub Mix
A standard small steel or fiberglass bathtub will typically require:
- 6 ounces Part A (Resin)
- 6 ounces Part B (CLEAR Catalyst)
Reduce only as needed based on temperature, humidity, and spray equipment.
Mandatory Induction Time
A
fter mixing Part A and Part B:
- Allow the material to induct for 30 minutes.
- Induction improves flow, leveling, adhesion, and cure consistency.
With extended pot life, you can mix on arrival and let it induct while you prep.
Reducer & Spray Equipment Guidance
Use the same reducer as our High Gloss Epoxy system. Add reducer only after induction, immediately before spraying.
- Thinning requirements depend on temperature, humidity, and airflow.
- 2–3 stage turbines generally require more reducer (lower atomization).
- 5–6 stage turbines require less reducer (better atomization and control).
- Spray a test panel when conditions or equipment change.
Clear control tip: Avoid heavy wet coats on clear — lighter passes reduce pooling and keep the finish visually cleaner.
