Why I Formulated This Reducer (And Why a Single Solvent Isn’t Enough)

SharkThane Quick Dry is a 4-hour cure system that’s often being applied with hot air turbine HVLP. That combination is powerful — but it also means the coating can be drying as it leaves the spray gun. A single-solvent “reducer alternative” might thin the product, but it won’t control the way it flashes, levels, and crosslinks.

This reducer uses a staged evaporation profile (a controlled “evaporation ladder”) so the film can wetten, flow, and lock in instead of crusting over too fast.

What Goes Wrong With “Single-Solvent” Reduction

Fast cure + hot turbine air = you need flash control, not just thinning.

Dry spots / dry stops — visible stop-and-start marks on large surfaces or multi-pass jobs
Solvent trapping — top layer “skins” first, while solvents underneath can’t escape
