Description

SHARKTHANE
QUICK DRY REDUCER

Precision-formulated reducer engineered specifically for the SharkThane Quick Dry 4-Hour Cure System.

4-Hour Cure Optimized
Stop/Start Blend Control
Staged Flash Profile

Why I Formulated This Reducer (And Why a Single Solvent Isn’t Enough)

SharkThane Quick Dry is a 4-hour cure system that’s often being applied with hot air turbine HVLP. That combination is powerful — but it also means the coating can be drying as it leaves the spray gun. A single-solvent “reducer alternative” might thin the product, but it won’t control the way it flashes, levels, and crosslinks.

This reducer uses a staged evaporation profile (a controlled “evaporation ladder”) so the film can wetten, flow, and lock in instead of crusting over too fast.
What Goes Wrong With “Single-Solvent” Reduction
Fast cure + hot turbine air = you need flash control, not just thinning.
  • Dry spots / dry stops — visible stop-and-start marks on large surfaces or multi-pass jobs
  • Solvent trapping — top layer “skins” first, while solvents underneath can’t escape
  • Down-glossing — trapped solvent haze that looks like fogged glass (like “breathing on glass from underneath”)
  • Texture & inconsistency — crusting and dry-spray that can’t level out in time
Bottom line: This reducer isn’t just “thinner.” It’s a performance control tool for fast-cure urethane under turbine heat.

What It Does

  • Preserves the 4-hour cure profile while improving spray control
  • Helps prevent dry stops and stop/start marks on large surfaces
  • Improves wettening + leveling without leaving the film soft
  • Helps reduce downgloss tied to solvent trapping and crusting

Hide vs. Coverage (Pros Know the Difference)

Coverage is how far the coating spreads. Hide is how well it blocks the underlying color.

Most one-piece fiberglass units can be sprayed with one mixed quart. But if a colored unit needs more HIDE, you may need to mix more and continue. With a fast-dry system, the reducer matters because it helps you blend back in without repainting the whole unit.
Alternate Solvents vs. Purpose-Built Reducer
Some solvents reduce viscosity — but they don’t manage a fast-cure film under turbine heat.
  • Toluene — can thin, but offers less controlled flash/level balance
  • Xylene — usable, but slower response and broader evaporation curve
  • MEK — strong solvency, but less forgiving and easy to “over-dry” under hot air
Professional reality: If you’re forced into an alternative reducer, you’re increasing the odds of dry stops, downgloss, and blend issues — especially on large units or when you must stop to remix for additional HIDE.

Pro Backup Plan: Melt Down™ Blender (Spray Can)

If you’re forced into a reducer alternative and you see a dry spot or dry stop starting to show, keep Melt Down™ in a spray can on the cart.

  • Mist the dry spot and let it “melt” and blend back in
  • Be quick — timing matters on fast-cure systems
  • Saves you from repainting a whole unit or coming back to buff and chase edges

Professional Reduction Guidance

  1. Reduction depends on temperature, humidity, airflow, and equipment.
  2. With turbines, remember: hot air accelerates flash — don’t “dry it in the air.”
  3. Start conservative and adjust based on atomization and leveling response.
  4. Do not chase spray-ability at the expense of cure integrity and gloss retention.
READ THIS — VALUE PACK SAVES YOU MONEY
BOLD FACT: If you buy the Value Pack (A + B + Reducer), we practically give the reducer away.
  • Part A + Part B (no reducer): $129.00
  • Reducer alone (1 gallon): $39.95
  • If you buy reducer later: $129.00 + $39.95 = $168.95
  • Value Pack (A + B + full gallon reducer): $149.00
You save $19.95 versus buying the reducer later.
Pro Buying Strategy (Save Even More)

One full gallon of Quick Dry Reducer is enough to service TWO SharkThane Quick Dry A+B kits. If you're buying two kits (example: one White + one Clear), make only ONE of them the Value Pack. That one reducer gallon can support both kits.

We are business-to-business. We treat you like it — with systems that work and pricing that helps you keep more profit. The whole idea is to take care of each other.

Fast Cure Demands Precise Reduction

SharkThane Quick Dry Reducer is engineered to support the 4-hour cure — not compromise it. Use the reducer designed for the system to get speed, control, gloss retention, and durability.
